I hosted a Halloween Party this past weekend and it’s safe to say that Pinterest threw up ALL over it. And by ‘threw up,’ you might think I mean Pinterest FAILS, but I’m proud to say that all of the ideas became Pinterest successes! (Full disclosure I had a ton of help in the kitchen for the food bits as that is definitely my weakest area.)
This was my first Halloween in suburbia, so I really wanted to embrace all the suburban mom things–which also meant inviting all of my mom FRIENDS to my party! AND I’m happy to say that I now actually HAVE mom friends thanks to an app called Peanut. I call it ‘Tinder for Moms’ because you actually swipe up or down on each mom’s profile depending on if you think you’d be a good match as friends. It sounds super strange, I know, but it worked! This is how it happened: I found 4 other moms who like to drink wine (a must–I’m not looking to go on a coffee date), we met up at a Mexican restaurant one night with all of our babies, and the rest is history! We now refer to ourselves as the Peanuts, which is hilariously misunderstood by basically everyone who hears it…(if ya know what I mean). I really feel so lucky to have found them, and thinking about our kids growing up together makes me emotional!
But back to the party! It was a costume party, so obviously Tim, Gracie, Bleecker and I needed a family costume! We decided on doing a circus theme, with Tim dressed as an elephant (in a onesie), me as a lion tamer, Gracie as a lion, and Bleecker as a dog with a monkey on his back! I ended up DIYing my costume, which I will outline below–super easy! I have also listed all of the food and decorating ideas we did in case you, too, would like to host a Suburban Mom Pinterest Halloween Party. 🙂 Also jusssst in case you’re in denial: 13 Signs You Might Be a Suburban Mom  (12 & 13 tho – SO GUILTY)
For my Lion Tamer costume, I ordered this hat on Amazon, along with a red blazer. I then hit up JOANN’s (remember to use THOSE COUPS) and bought some gold trim and gold roping which I hot glued to the blazer. I wore a black turtleneck, skirt, tights and boots to complete the outfit. For the ring of fire, I hot glued construction paper to a hula hoop. You could also use streamers!
Tim completed his look with tube socks and a beer. Gracie’s lion costume is also from Amazon because Amazon is life and if it’s not prime, I’m not interested. Bleecker’s monkey costume is from Target (he also looks very similar to the dog wearing the costume in the link, which makes me wonder if he really could have been a dog model and made me some $$).
Bleecker about to jump through the hoop…haha I WISH.
Bats! These bats I found in the dollar section at Target–my tip is to fold the wings back a bit to make them more 3D.
These spiders were SO EASY. All you need is black streamers, black balloons and some tape! Easy peasy Pinterest gold!
These mummy candles were probably my favorite. I found the mason jars in the dollar section of Target and covered them with sticky gauze from the medical section. Hot glue eyes to the front (I left a little space for the mouth), pop a candle inside, and you’re done!
In the kitchen I had the help of my sister, my best friend and his partner who just so happens to be a food stylist–but you honestly don’t have to have any real skillz besides melting chocolate and hard boiling eggs (why is that so hard?!?!) to make all of these!
Guacamole Frankenstein! I MEAN COME ON.
The fingernails on these bad boys are dark chocolate covered almonds!
The skeleton food stylist at work carving hot dog fingers! 🙂
Cut jack-o-lantern faces into squares of cheese for cheeseburgers!
Bleecker had a costume change and a photo shoot ensued. Enjoy.
Aka the hot mess mom express!
