HAPPY HALLOWEEN: Our Monsters, Inc. Family Costume

Year two of my Basic B Suburban Mom Halloween Party was a success! For our family costume this year, Tim and I wanted to pick something that would pay homage to my growing baby bump, so we settled on Monsters, Inc. Monsters Inc. is one of the only movies Gracie has paid attention to long enough to care about the characters, so she was pretty pumped! She actually got so into the scene in the movie where Sully has to leave Boo that she ended up crying hysterically, “Monstah NO NO Monstah! Baby! Up! Monstah baby up!” It was absolutely heartbreaking but also sooo cute! We might wait a bit to have her watch it again–for emotional reasons haha.

THE COSTUMES

Gracie’s costume was from Amazon–I debated trying to make it for her but, 1) wasn’t sure she would even wear it and 2) was honestly too lazy. It was really cute, though, and she wore it the whole night! As a backup plan, I grabbed a pink shirt and purple pants from Target for her to wear underneath (Boo’s outfit in the movie). Tim’s outfit is from Walmart for $15! Pretty pleased with it even though it could have been juuuust a bit longer haha!

I did DIY my own costume, though, and I love how it turned out! I ordered this pj set on Amazon (size 16 in boys!) and then bought green, white, blue, and black felt at Michael’s. I simply cut out the pieces and used hot glue to attach them to the shirt. I tried to line up the eyeball so it was right over my bump. For the hat, I ordered this guy on Amazon and printed out the Monsters, Inc. logo which I hot glued to the hat. I also DIY’d Bleecker’s Randall costume with this dog fleece sweater and hot glued on eyeballs from Michael’s. The purple ‘hair’ is a piece of thin foam board from Michael’s as well. Super easy!

THE DECOR

I tried to keep my decoration DIYs for the party at a minimum this year–because pregnancy–but I did end up recreating the spiders I made last year and added in a few balloon and streamer ghosts! They were SO easy! I just used a sharpie to draw on the face.

On my dining room table (where I put all the food that people brought) I created a bit of a center piece with pumpkins, eyeball ping pong balls, little plastic cauldrons, black candle sticks, and spider webs. All of it was from the dollar store except for the white candle sticks which we use as our real table decor.

One of the snacks I ‘made’ were these skeleton hands stuffed with veggie straws and Goldfish. Super simple and great for little kids!

THE CREW

Group shot! The best part about this photo is that not all the kids are present–there were 18 kids (5 and under) at the party! Everyone dressed up which made it even more fun!

I finally remembered to bring out my Polaroid camera and was able to get some fun shots with that as well. Such a great way to give out ‘favors,’ too, if you take photos of guests!

And as always, the behind-the-scenes. This time, family photo style. 🙂
