SIGH. This feels weird! I have been wanting to start a blog for about 7 years. But until now, something has always held me back. I never wanted to be ‘that girl’ who thinks she can blog about her life and expect people to actually care. Because in reality, who wants to watch or read a glorified version of someone’s life that is REALLY REALLY annoyingly perfect…but actually incredibly fake and contrived? It’s so tempting (for everyone, not just a blogger or influencer) to create this ideal version of life to present to people as the truth. But it’s not the truth—or maybe sometimes it is, but it’s a skewed version of the truth or not the WHOLE truth.
And yes, while I’m saying all of this, I’ll be the first to admit that I am THE WORST when it comes to social media (just ask my husband, Tim). I spend way too much time thinking about the perfect Instagram post and I will 100% ruin a moment to take a shameless selfie that will last all of 24 hours. The interesting twist in my social media story, however, is that after college, it became my career in which I now have almost a decade of experience. As a fairly creative person suffering from severe FOMO, working in social media turned out to be the perfect fit and allowed me to forge my own path in an area that had not even existed when I was in high school.
Where am I going with all of this? Basically what I’m trying to say is that I have literally made a living off of creating an online social media presence for various brands, so I know first hand what all goes into it and how there’s sooo much below the surface that no one sees. I have decided with this blog that I will attempt to show the behind the social scenes and will reveal the WHOLE truth. There will still be plenty of pretty pictures and perfect moments, mind you, but I promise to also expose the pig beneath the lipstick and we can all share a little laugh about how ridiculous—albeit wonderful—life really is.
